Residential Support Services offers supported living services to persons with various physical disabilities in many communities throughout Allegheny County.
This service offers an alternative to group homes and long-term care facilities by promoting community inclusion and each person's potential for maximum independence. Most individuals supported through Residential Support Services lease apartments and homes, and several have been assisted in becoming proud home owners. In 2008, CLASS built a SMART home for several individuals which incorporated new technology to further enhance independence within the home.
All services are provided with a focus on individuals enhancing their capacities to become as self-reliant as possible. Specific services offered through Residential Support include:
- Personal care
- In-home skills training
- Health and medications management
- Housekeeping/laundry
- Community involvement
- Meal planning/preparation
- Financial management
- On call emergency support via cellular phones and/or pagers
- Transportation, when indicated
These services are provided 365 days a year with specific support schedules developed based on each individual's assessed needs. All services provided by our residential staff focus on our mission "working toward a community where each belongs." Staff work with individuals to discover their interests and desires regarding community activities and then assist in facilitating participation in these activities. Individuals 18 years of age or older with a physical disability are eligible to participate in this service. Funding is necessary for participation and be may secured through various waiver programs as well as third party insurance, trust funds and private sources.
